Frankenstein Di2.
Everybody has seen the K-Edge’s Ki2
(http://www.bikerumor.com/2011/07/28/k-edge-ki2-kit-converts-di2-to-mountain-bike-group/)
The K-Edge’s Ki2 Rear Derailleur Retro Fit Kit which cost a Staggering US$475!! this Exclude the Di2 derailleur.
This is just for the plates!! Ouch!
I was digging through my parts bin and had almost forgot that I had purchased a Yumeya Carbon plate kit for the XTR M970 SGS mech. Well I got it for my XTR M970 Shadow at the time, but it’s a shadow so never would have fitted anyway. So it sat in a box of bike stuff.
This kit consist of the Derailleur plates. pulley bolt and pivot bolt.
I got it at the JensonsUSA’s Blowout sale a while back and paid about US$50 for it. You should be able to get this for under £100 now which is still a darn sight cheaper than US$475 = £305 = HK$3700!
Anyway I proceeded to take my di2 apart and manage to Frankenstein the Yumeya cage right onto the body.
It fitted like it was designed for the mech!
Anyway See the pictures here and you’ll get an idea!

I started with a Di2 rear mech with only Fiberlyte Pulleys which weighed in at 214g
Transplated the Yumeya Carbon plates onto it and with the same pulleys weighed in at 220g.
I don’t think thats too bad and I’m pretty sure it’s still lighter than the Alloy cage of K-Edge’s design.
What applications is this for you may ask? Well this could be used on a mountain bike or if you decide to run a 13/15 pulley combo there is plenty of room you just need some slight modifications.
A disclaimer. This kit has not been tried out or fitted on a bike. I have no intentions to try it! but you can see It’ looks pretty darn good! so be my guess if you want to try. I and Flwrider will not be held repsonsible! Happy Hacking!

[...] it’s a fairly cheap experiment compared to the full Ki2 kit from K-Edge, which he compares on his blog. Of course, you’d still need most of a Di2 group and K-Edge’s nifty machined shift [...]
